The goal is to find a direct correlation between attributes that are physically attractive among typical heterosexual males and females.

Method

Participants

Forty people (20 men, 20 women), ages ranging from eighteen to forty, in the state-line area participated in a questionnaire containing five questions for approximately five minutes. Each age group consisted of five male subjects, and five female. Participants were told about the web fair and will be given the web address to view completed research when available.

Design

Variables regarding physical attraction and the categorization of variables on a 0-3 scale are as follows:

Makeup variable-

0- no makeup products used.

1- one to four makeup products used.

2- five to nine makeup products used.

3- Seven or more makeup products used.

Facial Hair variable:

0: Facial hair completely shaven.

1: One to two days going unshaven.

2: Three to seven days going unshaven.

3: Visible facial hair is maintained.

Wardrobe variable:

0: clothes are worn in any fashion without regard to fit.

1: clothes are worn tight.

2: clothes are worn neither tight nor loose.

3: clothes are worn loose.

Accessories variable:

0: No accessories worn.

1: One to two accessories worn.

2: Three to four accessories worn.

3: Five or more accessories worn.

Hair Variable:

0: No time put into styling hair.

1: One to five minutes of time put into styling hair.

2: Six to ten minutes put into styling hair.

3: More than ten minutes put into styling hair.

Apparatus

Questionnaire of physical variables function as data collection for participants.

Procedure

Each participant was approached by questioner and asked to answer a short questionnaire of five questions.  When participants agreed, questioner informed participant that study was aimed at determining aspects of physical attraction for the opposite sex and results would be available via the World Wide Web at the conclusion of the study.  Participants where then asked five questions in regard to participant’s general information as well as practices and views on physical attraction.  At conclusion of questionnaire, participants were again reminded of availability of information on the social web fair and were thanked for participation.
